Title: America the Beautiful: Alaska
Author: Donna Walsh Shepherd
Summary: This is a detailed nonfiction book about Alaska. It covers everything from the land bridge of the ice-ages to the explorers 1700s, and Native Alaskans to the historic gold rush. It also gives details of Alaska's purchase and journey to statehood, the oil-spill, the Alaskan pipe line, Alaskan art, geography, government, and dog sled-racing.
Recommendation: This book is full of fantastic information about Alaska. I
read it in preparation for a trip to the state, and reading the book made me
wish that I was visiting several more places that were not on my itinerary. It gave me a great appreciation for the magnificent lands that are a significant part of our 50 United States.
