Title: The Blessing Way (book, 1)
Author: Tony Hillerman
Summary: Lt. Joe Leaphorn finds a dead body in the mountains and suspects foul play. This boy should have been 100 miles from where the body was found and there is no reason he should be dead. Meanwhile Bergen McKee has come out to research native American traditions of witchcraft. The People of the area are convinced witchcraft is at work among them because of dead livestock and spooky showings. McKee doesn't know what to think but something dangerous is going on and he ends up right in the middle of it. This is the first book about Lt. Leaphorn in a series, thought the book seemed to focus on McKee. There is a lot of description of Native American rituals, not all of which made sense and some were slightly dull.
Recommendation: Someone recommended Tony Hillerman so I gave him a go, but I wasn't really that impressed. It was a little dull. He often talked about Native American traditions as if I already had a lot of background information, which I didn't, so it was hard to follow. It seemed to me there was too much talking and not enough mystery.
