Title: Brian's Winter
Author: Gary Paulsen
Summary: Mr. Paulsen revisits his earlier work The Hatchet with an alternative ending. What if Brian Robison hadn't been rescued at summer's end and had to "make it" through a Canadian winter. What would he do? How would he adapt and survive. The story follows Brian through this new adventure to a new and different conclusion. He learns to adapt, even hunting a moose.
Recommendation: Sure would. It's interest capturing. But the reader really need to read Hatchet first.

Title: Brian's Winter
Author: Gary Paulsen
Summary: In the original book, Hatchet, Brian was rescued from his plane crash in the Canadian wilderness before the dangers of winter set in. This book tells us what would have happened if he had to face winter on his own. As always, Brian's careful observation of the world around him and his background knowledge help him to find solutions to the challenges he faces like cold, hunger, hungry animal companions, the deepening snow, etc.
Recommendation: Yes. I always hate it when a book ends and this is what I love to see... an extension of an original story. Sequels always present a whole new plot, but this one continues the original one beautifully.
