Title: A Call to Russia
Author: Thomas F. Rogers
Summary: President Rogers and his wife, Merriam, were called to serve in the Russia St. Petersburg mission from 1993 to 1996. This book tells of his thoughts as a mission president, as well as stories from his missionaries to give a great perspective on missionary life in Russia.
Recommendation: Having served a Russian-speaking mission in the Baltic countries, I loved this book. I identified with the perspectives of Russian people and culture. This book is broken down into years of service, and then further into small snippets of experiences within those sections. It makes it easy to put the book down and pick it right back up again. If you plan to serve a mission, I recommend reading this book, as it will give a President's perspective on the kind of missionary you should strive to be. It wasn't an all-consuming book for me, but I quite enjoyed both the secular and spiritual
commentaries provided by President Rogers.
