Author: Lois McMaster-Bujold
Summary: The Castillar dy Cazaril is a man of many talents and hard-earned wisdom. He returns to his own country after years of war and heartbreak to take employment where he once served as a page. His utmost desire is anonymity and a quiet life. However, fate or his gods have other plans for this humble teacher which will force him to face what he fears, those he fears, and (more dangerous than the others) those who fear him. Loyalty and love for the royal line of Chalion, which he serves, guides his decisions, and leads to the discovery of a black curse that twists the fates of both ruler and land.
Recommendation: I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in a new fantasy world. It has everything: miracles, bravery, villains, love, honor, wit, and breathtaking characterizations. I think Bujold's first Chalion book is an epic that can be read again and again.
