Title: The Embroidered Sunset
Author: Joan Aiken
Summary: Lucy is an orphan living with her aunt and uncle and their daughter. She despises her uncle who seems to delight in complicating her life. The story begins with the uncle informing Lucy that her inheritance was spent on her education and now she must work rather than pursue more piano studies. Lucy finds a way to England to ask Max Benovek, a famous pianist, to teach her piano. Max accepts, but Lucy must first fulfill the uncle's request that she find great-aunt Fennel. She succeeds in finding Aunt Fennel and forces the uncle to make a trip to England to see for himself.
Recommendation: The book had moments of suspense, but it was a lot about relationships between people and finding happiness. Yes, I would recommend it. I liked seeing how Lucy stood up for herself. Lucy gained confidence in herself while several other characters learned to cope with the consequences of their choices.
