Title: Evan Blessed
Author: Rhys Bowen
Summary: The 9th (I think) of the Constable Evans mystery series. A young man shows up at Evans' cottage to report that his girlfriend has become lost while they were out hiking. While rescue teams are out searching, they find a hidden bunker out in the woods. Evans begins receiving ominous clues that hint a sinister mind may be behind the events, and eventually the case turns personal, with Evans himself apparently being targeted. The police struggle to find what thread, if any, connects the missing hiker, the hidden bunker, and the musical clues.
Recommendation: Yes, but it would probably be best to have read at least some of the earlier books in the Evan Evans series. This book, though, is definitely more intense than the others. Where some of the books in the series take a few chapters to really get moving, this one pretty much hits the ground running, with the report of a missing hiker in the first chapter. Although this installment of the series still does not have any graphic violence (well, it is a murder mystery, but you know what I mean) or any bad language, it does not have as light a tone as the others, because things do turn personal. For me, the increased suspense made this book more enjoyable than the others in the series, which I already liked.
Hearts: 4
