Summary: James Bradley is the son of one of the soldiers in the famous Iwo Jimas picture, but his father never talked about it, only saying that the real heroes were the ones that never came home. After his father died James found a lot of papers & things about his father's war experiences & he began to do more research. This books tells the story of the six Marines who helped raise the flag at Iwo jima. These men were not chosen to do it, they just happened to be there at the time. Three of the six men died in the war.

Recommendation: Yes. I was interested in reading it because my Grandpa fought in WW II & at his funeral there was a military ceremony that was really amazing; but I wasn't sure if I'd like it. The book was really interesting & I leaned to appreciate even more what soldiers go through.
