The Friday Night Knitting Club

Title: The Friday Night Knitting Club

Author: Kate Jacobs

Summary: This book follows the lives of a bunch of women who live in New York City. They are very diverse in their backgrounds, talents, current situations, but they all get together at the knitting store to "work" on their projects. The center of the story is the owner of the store, Georgia, whose talent of knitting has helped her make a life for herself and her daughter. Throw in some of those crazy things that happen in life by our choices, or just by life and see how these women respond and help each other.

Recommendation: This book is an excellent read for women. The one draw back is there is occasionally some profanity, not excessive, but I would prefer none at all. The stories of their lives draw you in and you find yourself just part of their female conversations.

Summary: Georgia Walker is a single mom raising a teenage daughter. She has her own business--a knitting store-- and is very successful. Some of the customers and employees at her store begin meeting on Friday Nights to get help with their knitting projects. But as they get closer to one another, they begin to share their lives with each other. From babies to divorces to the return of the father of Georgia's girl, they help each other through everything.

Recommendation: I would highly recommend this book. I've never been a knitter but most of the women in my family (and a few men) knit. But you don't have to know how to knit to love this story. There is something that everyone can relate to. It is well written, for a first novel, and the characters are wonderful.

Summary: I loved the diversity of the characters and how they all came together in a modern day story. I could not put this book down! Made me laugh and cry. A story of an eclectic group of women who come together once a week to knit. They knit sweaters. They knit scarves. They knit baby blankets. And they knit their lives together, forming unexpected friendships and an extraordinary support network that proves to be the most valuable of their creations.

Recommendation: Yes! Fun read! Predictable or too neatly wrapped up ending for some. But I liked the closure.
