Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap. . .and Others Don't

Title: Good to Great

Author: Jim Collins

Summary: Good to great is a survey of 7 qualities that were found to identify companies which outperformed their competitors in terms of stock price by several multiples. These qualities are:

Level 5 Leadership
First Who...Then What
Confront the Brutal Facts (Yet Never Lose Faith)
The Hedgehog Concept
A Culture of Discipline
Technology Accelerators
The Flywheel and the Doom Loop

The prose is sufficient and the ideas are compelling. Written by one of the writers of "Built to Last" it is every bit as good a business treaties if not better.

Recommendation: While this book was written to explore the ideas that make large great corporations Great, these principles can easily be internalized and applied to individuals and families. I think the key concept all could learn and first apply lies in the Hedgehog Concept. From there you will find a natural place for yourself professionally and familiarly.
