Summary: Miss Lily Bart was born into a rich family in New York in the early 1900s, but her family fell into hard times. Though she was not rich, she lived a rich woman's life by living on other's rich people. She determined that she must marry a rich man in order to keep the standard of living she was used to, but she's already 29, and time and money seems to be running out.

Recommendation: There really isn't much mirth in The House of Mirth. It is like Jane Austin gone wrong, 50 years later, and in New York. However, it is incredible well written, and much more moral than Austin.
