Title: Infinite Ascent: A short history of mathematics
Author: David Berlinski
Summary: A delightfully written book that focuses on the author's opinion of the ten most important breakthroughs in mathematical history - and the individuals associated with them. It begins with Number and Pythagoras and concludes with Godel's Incompleteness Theorem.
Recommendation: While generally non-formulaic, it will certainly provide exercise for the intellect. It should be accessible to anyone with sufficient curiosity for this kind of material. Then, if you really want a challenge and are also into art and music, try reading Gödel, Escher, Bach by Hofstadter.
