It's Like This, Cat

Title: It's Like This, Cat

Author: Emily Cheney Neville

Summary: In this Newbery medal winner, a New York City boy adopts a stray tomcat and they explore the city together. Just by having this cat (which he names Cat) he meets new people that become great friends, and he learns how to get along better with his dad.

Recommendation: I thought it was pretty interesting the transformation this boy goes through, from hating his dad to understanding him a bit more and getting along with him more. I thought the characters were fun and very believable, and I really liked the concept illustrated that people can be part of your family but not necessarily related. Loved it! I also enjoyed exploring New York City with them. And I'm very glad that I didn't have to be a cat lover to enjoy this book.

Recommendation: I liked this book. Dave has fun adventures with his cat and new friends and shows a really mature side as he tries to make his relationship with his Dad better. This book won a Newbery Medal Award for children's literature.
