Title: Mountains Beyond Mountains
Author: Tracy Kidder
Summary: This book explores in a moving way the life of a public health crusader, Dr. Paul Farmer. The good doctor had every opportunity--excelling at Harvard Medical School and with an advanced anthropology degree--and used them to cure illness among the world's poorest.
Recommendation: I would recommend this book in strong terms with one caveat. I recommend it so strongly because Farmer's life is interesting, but mostly because Tracy Kidder is a wonderful storyteller. He explores emotions and feelings and the discomforts that wealthy people often feel when considering the world's poorest. The caveat is that the book has strong language, including the f-word, repeated frequently in the dialogue.
