Night of the Fox

Title: Night of the Fox

Author: Jack Higgins

Summary: A convoy of ships practicing for D-Day is attacked by German ships. Among the missing is an American engineer who knows the date and place for the upcoming invasion. When the American turns up on the German-occupied island of Jersey, a British agent goes to Jersey posing as a Gestapo agent to smuggle the American out. Meanwhile the German officials on the island receive word that Field Marshal Rommel, commander of Germany's forces in northern France, is coming for a surprise inspection.

Recommendation: Yes, I would recommend this book. It is suspenseful without being graphically violent (though there is of course some violence) and without a lot of bad language. The basic premise of the story kind of stretches plausibility--a British agent posing as a Gestapo agent at the same time and same place as a German soldier posing as Rommel (that's not a spoiler, by the way). But the adventure is a fun read. Nothing to take too seriously, but a fun WWII spy novel.

Hearts: 4

One of the first English book I read. It's a good book. Captivating. The characters are magnificent. Somehow I can relate to them. I lost my original copy of the book. I will read the book again if I can find another copy.
