Title: Plainsong
Author: Kent Haruf
Summary: The interwoven stories of characters in a Colorado town. It creates parallels of love, how life is created and its intricacies made, and the endurance of daily life. A young girl becomes pregnant, and two elderly bachelors open their house and hearts to her and her child. Meanwhile, two young boys grow up with a father who tries to make ends meet when their mother abandons them. Along with many other wonderful characters.
Recommendation: I loved this book and am so glad I finished it.It is character driven, real, and humane. Their lives are invested with detail and the feeling of "real truth." I can't recommend it whole heartedly because the first section of the book has some difficult imagery and language.

I am reading this book as there has been a controversy regarding it being assigned to a sophomore boy class at my son's school. The beginning contains some very, very graphic sexual content and should not be read by teenagers if you dobn't want to affect their purity.
