Title: Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities
Author: Alexandra Robbins
Summary: Robbins follows four real girls during their year as sorority sisters. She traces their love lives, family troubles, hopes and dreams, and the everyday drama of sorority life. She mixes her expose with stories from other sororities and tips for students, families, and universities dealing with the sorority system.
Recommendation: This is a really interesting read, possibly because the
experience of these girls is so unlike my own college experience. At points, the policy recommendations or side stories of what's going on at other universities seem a little tangential, but overall, the pace is good and easy to follow. I don't think this is necessarily an accurate picture of sorority life everywhere, but I think it gives a good general idea of the lifestyle and some of its accompanying difficulties.
