Summary: This book tells the story of two very different women, Shirley and Caroline, and the difficulties they encounter in seeking love. It follows the heartbreaks, sorrows, and also the joys they each experience in 1800s England.

Recommendation: Yes, though it was difficult to get through. The storyline is beautiful, but the road the author takes to get there is a little too winding. I was bothered by the fact that Shirley, the title character, was not even introduced in something like the first 200 pages. I thought Caroline was the real heroine of the story, and would have named the book accordingly. If you can slog through the somewhat archaic Dickens-esque writing, it is worth it for the story.
