Spook Country

Title: Spook Country

Author: William Gibson

Summary: This book has three individual subplots which merge at the end of the book. The first is about a journalist that used to be in a rock band who is working on an article about "locative art" which uses 3-D headsets and GPS. The second story is about a guy addicted to anti-anxiety drugs who is held hostage and forced to help a guy that may or may not be some kind of government agent. The third story is about a teen named Tito who was born in Cuba and is a member of a family of spies. None of the main characters know what kind of secret plot they are involved in and the story slowly unfolds for them and for the reader.

Recommendation: I really enjoyed this book. While the story has some sci-fi elements, it takes place in the present day. Gibson likes to have multiple subplots in his books and jump between them often. Each chapter in this book is only a few pages long and each chapter break represents a jump to one of the other subplots. The story is pretty fast paced and fun. It's not the best book by Gibson, but I really enjoyed it and was glad I read it.
