Title: Wizardborn
Author: David Farland
Summary: Book three of the The Runelords series continues in the battle with the Reavers. This book picks up right where book 2 leaves off in the battle with the reavers. Gaborn, who has lost most of his powers as Earth King, struggles to find a way to defeat the reavers. Meanwhile our previous nemesis Raj Ahten leaves to find reavers in his own kingdom. We continue to follow the characters Borenson, Myrrima, and Averan in their various adventures.
Recommendation: If you have enjoyed the first two books in the Runelords series, then you will probably enjoy this one. We just continue along the same story moving it forward slowly as Gaborn formulates a plan to defeat the reavers. The boy only takes place over a few days of time. And like the other books it keeps seeming that they are fighting insurmountable odds and I don't always buy how they seem to win. Though I have read all three Runelords books, I am still trying to decide if I like them or not. I get a little tired of all the overwhelming bad things that seem to happen to the humans. It seems he tries to end his books on a positive note, like a battle won, but it isn't enough for me. Since the book only covers a few days the plot never seems to mover very far along. One redeeming fact is the creating of interesting characters, which unfortunately often die. At least in this book we are moving forward somewhat to a concept of conclusion, but at the rate the books move, it could take dozens of books. I suppose I am just frustrated that I don't see the whole point or goal of the series, perhaps I am just dense and like my books a
bit more black and white. And I always prefer closure with a happy endings. This books are definitely part of a series and I know there are at least three more books written after this one. So have fun! You may have to read them all.
